1.  Doing Time

Platform:  Netflix

Doing Time is Tyler Perry’s latest work published on Netflix.  This is a story of love against all odds including incarceration, poverty, and sickness.

Anika (Naomi Baker) is a corrections officer/struggling single mother who meets an inmate named Carousel played by Jay reeves.  He  couragously shows his love for her – even before they officially met.

Without sharing too much of the plot, this film examines the challenges of rebuilding a life after encarceration.  Although he is free of all legal obilgations and paid his debt to society, many characters idn the film reduce him to his past.

Nonetheless, the beauty in this film is Anika and Carousel’s capacity to love in spite of Anika’s opposing family.
